Welcome Parents

The Junior Year in Munich is an intercollegiate study abroad program for US undergraduates at the prestigious Ludwig Maximilians Universität (LMU Munich). Founded 1931, and re-opened 1953 by Wayne State University, the Junior Year in Munich is America's oldest study abroad program in Germany.

JYM is committed to the mission of academically integrated study abroad upon which JYM was founded more than 75 years ago. Rigorous external review of the program ensures the highest standards in academic programming, support, and student achievement (see 2007 Academic Program Review).

JYM has gone far beyond its origins in the junior year abroad tradition, and challenges the prevailing student perceptions of study abroad. We want students to view study abroad as part of a continuum of experiences, rather than as a singular episodic adventure. Therefore we have introduced a progressive series of programs that take place before, during, and well beyond our students' participation in JYM.

We invite you to explore our website and discover what sets us apart from other programs, and why JYM will certainly be one of the most personally rewarding experiences your son or daughter undertakes in college.
