Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (LMU Munich) has been ranked nationally and internationally as the best university in Germany.* In 2006 LMU Munich was awarded coveted status as one of Germany's first "elite research universities" by an international jury of the German Research Foundation and Science Council.

Founded 1472, LMU Munich is one of the oldest German universities.
