Global Competency
Educators
have long valued the experience of study abroad and international
living. Business
leaders too underscore their need for employees with international
experience, intercultural awareness and a global perspective. In
order to remain competitive within a global economy, businesses
need people who know how to market products and services within
a world of diverse national and regional cultures. They need people
who know first-hand about the cultures of other countries, speak
their languages, and understand their business practices.
The
need for productive international affairs and mutually beneficial
international trade is not at all new. New, however, is the degree
to which the need for global competency now permeates small and
medium-sized industries, engages local, regional and state governments,
and has been embraced by colleges and universities across the US
as part of their General Education or Core Curriculum requirements.
From foreign relations to foreign trade, the US needs a globally
competent citizenry.
Long
before it became commonplace to speak of "the knowledge, skills,
attitudes, and experiences necessary to become globally competent,"
JYM students have been acquiring valuable linguistic skills and
intercultural experiences that meet these criteria.*
At
JYM, we view knowledge, performance, and experience as the pillars
of global competency. By integrating first-hand knowledge of German
society and culture, with verifiable advanced foreign language proficiency
and extensive cross-cultural experience overseas, you'll acquire
truly meaningful and marketable global competency credentials.
