Excursions

The JYM model of integrated study abroad extends well beyond the classroom. Our goal is to guide students towards the moment where it becomes second nature for them to take full advantage of the many cultural resources and experiences surrounding them. We arrange both group excursions and facilitate independent field study ...

As Part of Orientation
Upon arrival JYM students are introduced to the LMU Munich, the city of Munich, as well as its immediate surrounding areas. Group trips to popular destinations such as Neuschwanstein, Kloster Andechs and more are a regular part of the fall Orientation.

As an Integral Part of JYM Coursework
JYM area studies courses utilize Munich's prestigious cultural, educational and historical resources as an integral part of the curriculum whenever possible. Courses may include visits and/or assignments related to museums, archives, theatrical performances, or even travel beyond Munich.

As a Requirement of the Honors Program for the Study of European Ideas
JYM students who sign up for the JYM Honors Program are expected to attend or participate in a specific number of academic and cultural events which count as partial fulfillment of the requirements for their Honors Portfolio.

As Optional European City Seminars
JYM arranges optional European City Seminars throughout the year that allow students to discover and learn about major European cities in a way independent travel alone is hard to achieve. These trips are not covered by the Program Fee, and cost approximately 300 € each. Past trips have included Vienna, Prague, Budapest, Lubjiana and more.
