Affordable Study Abroad in Germany

Let's be honest — going to college today is becoming more and more expensive. On-campus tuition, housing, meal plans, and all those hidden fees are again on the rise. When exploring study abroad options, you'll again want to search for high quality programs that are worth the investment in your future and meet your budget.

As you search for programs, you'll notice that these days everyone is talking about the need to make study abroad affordable. But unless you compare program fees carefully (and take into account additional expenses such as vacation travel), you may find yourself on the wrong end of the affordability scale.

Below is a real comparison between JYM and a popular study abroad provider:

One Semester Only
Fall 2009
JYM Munich
XYZ Berlin
tuition, housing, insurance
$9,700
$18,200

Note that XYZ's fee for just one semester is almost as much as
JYM's fee for an entire year.

Academic Year
2009/10
JYM Munich
XYZ Berlin
tuition, housing, insurance
$19,400
$31,000+
housing between semesters (2 mos.)
included
not included

Obviously affordablity is a relative term, e.g. the cost of living in Berlin is actually less than Munich. But for those who really want to spend all their money on fees alone, there are other comparable study abroad programs in Berlin, Tübingen, Bremen and Hamburg that range from $38,000 to more than $50,000. The question is: why would you want to do that?
