JYM/CDS Internship Program

The Junior Year in Munich has formed a partnership with CDS International that allows students to integrate internship experience with their academic schedule of coursework during the second semester (SoSe). The internship is usually three days a week during the entire semester (for 6 credits), and students are required to register for two additional courses for a semester total of 12 credits. Interested students will need to complete a separate "CDS Internship Application Supplement" and send it to JYM in Detroit at the same time they apply for admission to the JYM program.

How to Apply

1. Obtain Your Advisor's Approval

Because each school may have a different policy governing the granting of academic credit for internship experience, you will need to work closely with the advisor who approves your Proposed Schedule of Courses on the JYM application.

2. Apply to the Junior Year in Munich

Students accepted to the JYM/CDS Internship Program must take a full course load during the Sommersemester (i.e. at least 12 credits per semester). Since you will be earning 6 credits for the CDS internship (JY 589 Overseas Internship), you will need to plan on taking two additional courses for a semester total of at least 12 credits. The additional coursework needed may be any combination of JY/JU/U courses.

In order to receive a final course grade for JY 589, students must submit an Internship Portfolio (MS-Word file) to the JYM resident director by the end of the semester in which the CDS internship occurred.

Pending your advisor's approval, complete only the portion of the Proposed Schedule of Courses on the JYM application entitled "JYM/CDS Internship Program Option".

3. Apply for the CDS Internship

There are two steps to this procedure:

A. Complete the CDS Internship Application Supplement (PDF)

You will need a resume in German (download a sample Lebenslauf as PDF)

B. Send both the CDS Internship Application Supplement and the JYM Application Form together to JYM in Detroit by March 15.

Notification of Acceptance

The JYM forwards all CDS internship applications to CDS together after the program application deadline. Based on the information you provide on the Internship Application Supplement, CDS will inform JYM if they are able to secure an internship for you that matches your interests and field of study. If yes, CDS will then contact you directly, ask for additional information if needed, and arrange a telephone interview.
