World
Bridge and the Junior Year in Munich hosted a high-tech event at the German
Bridge Conference Center in November 2002. Dr. Otto Wiesheu, the
Bavarian Minister for Economic Affairs, Transport and Technology, and
his wife, Roswitha Wiesheu, a former official of the Seidel Foundation,
spoke from Wayne State's Junior Year in Munich (JYM) institute via videoconferencing
where they fielded questions from students in Detroit.

Heinz
C. Prechter Tribute Scholarships awarded to JYM alumni
The
very first Heinz Prechter Tribute Scholarships in 2002 were awarded
to alumni of Wayne State University's Junior Year in Munich. Erin
Krumrei (JYM class of 1999-2000) and Jennifer Kokko (JYM
class of 2000-02) each received a $2,000 Heinz Prechter Tribute Scholarship
after having been accepted to work as interns with companies in Germany.
Both students are currently studying German and Economics at the University
of Michigan in Ann Arbor. The Heinz C. Prechter Tribute Scholarship
Program is sponsored by the German-American Chamber of Commerce of the
Midwest - Michigan Chapter. (more

DAAD
edu.de Scholarship awarded to WSU student to study in Munich
Congratulations
to Kristine Wilmoth (Wayne State University) who has been awarded
an "edu.de" scholarship from the German government to study
in Germany with Wayne State's Junior Year in Munich in 2002-03. This
highly competitive scholarship is valued at approximately $7000, and
is sponsored by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).

Mechanical Engineering student awarded internship in Germany
Congratulations
to Michael Apke, a senior in Mechanical Engineering at Wayne
State University, who was awarded an internship in Germany through CDS
International. Michael spent the summer of 2002 interning with Volkswagen
Coach in Kassel.

Munich
Summer Fellows Program for College Freshmen
In
August 2002 the Junior Year in Munich launched its first annual Munich
Summer Fellows Program for students from across the US who have excelled
in the study of German during their freshman year of college.

to the following 2002 Munich Summer Fellows: Brigid Beech (Bates
College), Karen Holmes (University of Michigan), Inna Livitz
(Harvard University), Matthew Rao (University of Pennsylvania),
Kristi Rath (University of Minnesota), Garrett Linderoth
(Rutgers University), Kristin Meehan (Rutgers University), Matt
Miller (Miami University of Ohio), Marianne Windholtz (Miami
University of Ohio).

Founding Sponsors of the Eugene C. Strobel Memorial Scholarship Fund
The
Junior Year in Munich is pleased to announce the establishment of a
new scholarship fund in memory of Dr. Eugene C. Strobel, president
and founder of the German-American Heritage Foundation International
(GAHFI). Gene was a dear friend of Wayne State University and the Junior
Year in Munich, who worked tirelessly to promote the study of German
and German-American friendship in Michigan. (more
